All questions » Sport » NBA » Will anything come of Tim Donaghy's accusation that the 2002 Lakers-Kings series was fixed?
Current forecast: 28% chance

Combining all predictions, the current forecast is that this is 28% likely to happen (unchanged in last 1 day)
Recently Tim Donaghy has stated that referee's were told by the NBA not to eject star players from NBA playoff games and:
"NBA referees rigged a 2002 Lakers-Kings playoff series to force a seventh game and routinely showed favoritism, collected improper gratuities and had their work interfered with by league executives, ex-NBA ref Tim Donaghy claims in court documents."

The 2002 Series was a 7 game series that the Lakers won the last 2 games of, the game 7 win coming on a last second Derek Fisher 3 pointer. The ball was inbounded with 1.4 seconds left and after review the refs said that the shot was off in time, though sports center on ESPN told a different story the following day, timing the shot at between 4 and 5 seconds.
I thought the game was rigged ever since I watched the end of that 2002 King's Lakers series and now that Tim Donaghy is claiming it was set up I can no longer explain that by saying I just hate the Lakers and a lot of fans feel the same way.
Meanwhile commissioner Stern says: "I'm unconcerned," claiming that its a baseless accusation from a man willing to say anything to reduce his sentence.
His unconcern is not being taken lightly by the press, many of whom are talking about the government opening an investigation similar to the one used for Major League Baseball if the NBA will not take the accusation seriously.
This will settle as yes if either the NBA or the government open an investigation into the officiating of the 2002 playoffs, before the end of the year.
