Background:

Settlement details: Settlement of this will occur if any rider or horse dies in the course of, or as a result of, competing in any Olympic equestrian event (dresage, show jumping, eventing or the riding phase of modern pentathalon). This will include horses that are killed by a vetenary surgeon as a result of injuries sustained in the event.

Deaths or injuries prior to the commencement of the events or after the award of the medals are excluded.

Teh riding events are taking place in Hong Kong rther than Bejing because of quarantine issues. The weather conditions in Hong Kong in August are difficutl for many horses from more Northern locations. The organisers have taken a number of measures to reduce the stress on horses such as reducing the roads and tracks elements of the cross country phase of eventing.
