Will Jerry Yang Remain CEO Of Yahoo By End Of 2008?

Settled as Yes

Yang still CEO: http://yhoo.client.shareholder.com/press/management.cfm

Background:

Background: After the collapse of the Microsoft bid and Yahoo's stock it seems like every blogger and his dog is after Jerry Yang's head. Even the New York times has waded in telling Yang "if I were a betting man, I would be taking odds that your days as Yahoo’s C.E.O. are numbered".

Mike Arrington (and quite possibly his dog) are reporting "From what we hear from multiple sources close to Yahoo, this article may be the final straw - whether the board backs Yang or not, this is just too much negative press for the company to overcome. A fresh start is now a necessity for moving forward. Yang will step down, our sources say. It may be next week or it may be next month, but it’s going to happen."

Clarification: Despite recent news of Yang's stepping down, the timing is still in question. Settlement will occur on replacement or announcement of replacement date (or the end of 2008)

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.

Settlement requested Mon 17th Nov 2008 9:31pm PST by pixelpaws: Yahoo has just announced that he's "decided to return to his former role as Chief Yahoo! upon the appointment of his successor as CEO." Is that as good as him actually resigning or will this settle based on the date his replacement takes office?

The Internet search giant Yahoo! (YHOO) said Monday night that Jerry Yang, its CEO, would resign from his post and the company would begin searching for a new CEO effective immediately.

This still cannot be settled as "Yahoo has hired the executive search firm of Heidrick & Struggles to look for both internal and external candidates. The process could take anywhere between four weeks and 12 weeks" http://www.reuters.com/article/ousiv/idUSTRE4AH0KA20081118?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=10339

12 weeks would put us into 2009. Settlement will occur on replacement or announcement of replacement date (or the end of 2008)

Reports coming out mid-evening on the 17th announced that he was announcing his resignation...later reports seem to indicate that he will no longer be acting as CEO, but will remain with Yahoo "in his previous advisory role as "chief Yahoo," ". This same report also states that Yang "has stepped down from his role as CEO" and that "Yang's departure was announced by Yahoo's board of directors late Monday (Nov. 17). "

At this time it would seem fairest to suspend the question until it can be determined whether or not Yang will function as CEO until his replacement is found. If so, then the question may be reopened to determine if he is still CEO through the end of the year...but as of now, it appears that he may not be at this time.

OK...I'm removing my suspension....this is a technology question, and it's not up to me to make a suspension decision.

Sorry for intruding for a few moments....open back up again...

The question does npt say that a replacement must be found it asks if he will be CEO at the end of 2008 and the answer is no.

Well Yang's only stepping down once a replacement is found. So if a replacement is not found by the end of 2008, he will still be CEO of Yahoo.
