I don't know that "All Others" qualifies as a "winning prediction", now that Tiger is out for the season. "All others" refers to "other TOURNAMENTS" -- not "other outcome".

In my view, he would have to "tee up" at one of the "other tournaments" in order for this to be a winning prediction.

There was no outcome for "none".

I think, but I'm not sure, that HD rules would constrain this question to the current season...

IF NOT, this question ought be unsuspended, and continue on through next season.

OK...there is a difficulty here

- This question wasn't constrained to 2008 in either the title, background or settlement rules and there is no "none" option. But the suspend date is set in 2008.
- The final outcome should be "any other" as opposed to "all others" - (this would probably have been changed eventually if the injury announcement was never made)

My attitude to the Tiger injury is that, I'm not going to void a load of Tiger questions because he was injured. Injuries are a part of sports and should be taken account of when making predictions. I've taken a similar approach in the past when Tiger hasn't participated in tournaments.

Given that precedent, the correct thing to do would be to leave it open, given the absence of a "2008 season" in the question would be to leave it until Tiger tees off again sometime next year. But that would leave the question in limbo, the settlement would be inevitable and it would probably be against the spirit of the question in the first place.

Thoughts?

If I read this question yesterday, I would read "All Others" to mean "any other tournament that Tiger played at least one hole -- other than the 3 listed in the outcomes".

Even if it read "Any Other", I would have read that to (still) mean "any other tournament that Tiger played at least one hole."

I would not have read this as "any other outcome" -- which would have included "none".

With 20:20 hindsight, one might have wished for a listed outcome of "any other outcome" -- but it's not there.

Given, as you said, the inevitability of this outcome now being "All Others" (all other tournaments), I think the wiser settlement would be to void the question.

I like the way Donal opined that sports injuries are 'part and parcel' of the game.
I think that the question should settle now as "All Others", using the 99% rule.

I believe this question should be settled as "all others". And when Cognos and me agree on something, that is scary in itself. I believe the common sense intent of this question when written was to have the all others category cover all other tournaments afterward.

Is that sarcasm cognos?

Anyway - I'm going with the blessed "spirit of the question" on this one and settling as "all others"

The spirit of the question was "At which golf tournament will Tiger Woods next tee it up in 2008?". Had that been the wording, "All others" would have been changed to "any other" and I (in my infinite wisdom) would have interpreted that as encompassing "None"

Ideally, this question should have been better structured....let it be a lesson to you all.

That is all!

I like it! -- especially applying the "99" rule (which isn't Donal's "infinite wisdom" view ;-), but accomplishes the same end result.

I'm confused. Has Tiger Woods played one hole in a tournament other than the three listed? I've read the above comments and cannot understand the settlement.

Full disclosure - I did have a bet on one of the other three options.

Disclosure: i didnt wager on any of these it was a very poorly worded question with horible choices I would have voided it thats what i think there should have been an option of NONE that would have settled it Not ALL others because he will not be Teeing off on All others he will be teeing off in NONE this year. Unless you are talking next year in which you settled to soon

I believe this question could have been written better, but for a first question from the user, it was good enough to warrant a settlement. I think the user who created question will see and learn from this, and still satisfied that his market was active. The fun thing is I was in process of creating a similar market, was looking up tour dates and expert opinions on starting odds, then when I went to create market seen this one had been created a few minutes before mine, so I just followed this one. I like when new users start creating markets. Makes Hubdub that much better when we encourage users to come up with markets.

@ryanb37 - Calling another users questions poorly worded reminds me of that "pot" calling the "kettle" black saying. All users struggle at times to create good markets, and we all wish the market might have been worded a little differently, but this question wasn't poor by any standard. On scale of 1-10 it was a 7 or so.

I don't understand why when markets like this become obscure, contentious, or vague voiding is not chosen over settling.

ryanb37,

Your comment is very poorly structured. It demonstrates a lack of knowledge regard

And, give the graph, someone obviously made a lot of H$ right before the market was settled. I thought that Hubdub attempted to block users who bet AFTER the news broke.

All i am saying is that People could have voted for all others afer the news broke and made Alot if $ ie GAMING THE SYSTEM i would not think that the word ALL others would meen NONE.
All does not meen NONE ever come on even you cant argue that seems like were going to get into the whole Bill clinton thing by having to define every word because some people do not know what a dictionary is and want to imply their own deffinitions to words

ryanb37,

I had to stop reading your post after line 1.
Unfortunately I got exhausted in trying to interpret your sentences before coming to an end.

Please repost worded clearly and readable. In that case I'd try to read your valuable meaning again; without having to fear to misunderstand what you actually tried to say.

Thank you.
