Will it be reported that Madonna or Guy Ritchie have filed divorce before January 2009?

Settled as Yes

Going with the commonsense interpretation, they have announced their impending divorce. The actual filing of the paperwork is considered imminent. If it becomes apparent that no legal steps toward divorce have been taken by the end of the year we can consider resettling.

Background:

Madonna and Guy Richie divorcing...again?

Rumors are heating up again in the United Kingdom that Madonna is close to divorcing husband Guy Ritchie. Madonna has now hired the same lawyer that represented ex-Beatle Paul McCartney in his divorce from Heather Mills, according to London's Daily Mirror. Madonna reportedly had preliminary discussions with lawyer Fiona Shackleton in April.

Madonna, 49, said in an MTV interview in 2005 that she wanted out of her marriage. "I got married for all the wrong reasons," she said.

Previous breakup rumours have been quickly followed by denials, reportedly because of the couple's three children, Lourdes, 11, Rocco, 7, and David, 2. However, the Mirror now says the couple will split in November after Madonna wraps up her world tour in support of her latest album Hard Candy.

The fact that Madonna has hired Shackleton, 52, suggests that she is serious about ending the relationship, and it also suggests that the break up could be stormy. Apparently Madonna never made Ritchie sign a pre-nuptial agreement. They would also have to work out what likely would be complicated visitation issues. Madonna recently bought an apartment in New York, and would likely leave the UK after the divorce. Ritchie has said he has no interest in leaving England, where he is a celebrity.

Here's a snipp[et from a story in the sidebar dated two weeks ago:

Piers Morgan not fooled by Madonna / Monday, August 18 2008, 20:49 BST
By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

Piers Morgan has poured scorn on Madonna and Guy Ritchie's divorce denials, claiming that the pair have no credibility. Tabloid reports have speculated that the couple will announce their separation in November. However, both Madonna and Ritchie have responded by issuing statements to the contrary.

Morgan revealed that he lost faith in Madonna after receiving false information from her publicist Liz Rosenberg when he was editor of The Mirror. "Purely on the back of her firm denial, I'm going to have a few quid on a Madonna divorce by Christmas," Morgan explained.

settled but not paid?

It hasn't been settled yet.. I was trying to decide if we should count the announcement of the intention to divorce even though the question clearly says "papers filed". Several people brought up this very Spitzer-like possibility early on but it was never clarified. I'm willing to hear opinion on this one --

i have no money in the market. i have a suggestion tho. these trial-divorce-merger questions are a pain in the butt. do to them being subject to the court system, their hard to settle. i'm for question maker's rights..they put in the time and effort HD should settle on how the question was made. i don't wanna make extra work for the admins, but maybe on these type questions a statement saying.."do to things not in the control of the question maker or HD, if wager on this your money could be in limbo for a LONG time." in this instance i agree it should be suspened (not just one report of the divorce..their multiple reports) to avoid late wagers. it might take a week to file, it might be months before they file. then again they could kiss and make-up. goodluck betters and admin.
