Will the Democrats win Alaska's only seat in the House of Representatives in 2008?

Young retains US House seat in Alaska

Background:

Alaska only has one representative in the House due to its relatively small population. For 35 years, Republican Don Young has been that representative, now serving his 18th term. But, Democrats think they might have a chance to defeat him with a 45 year old state legislator, Ethan Berkowitz.

Young is mixed up with Alaska's Republican Senator Ted Stevens in some messy criminal investigations involving oilfield and pipeline companies and Young is also well known for his pork barrel projects, including the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere."

Will the Democrats be able to unseat this long-term Republican incumbent?

I think Young finally burned his bridge in Alaska. Young became the poster Child for Pork Barrel spending in both Time and Newsweek. This is easy money for the "Yes" option.

Naw, I used to live in Alaska, and they hold on to incumbents like Young almost no matter what. They do likes their pork up there. I'd be reeeeaaalllll surprised if Don Young isn't AK's U.S. representative up til the day he dies.
