I dont truly understand how it works. I know about html but i never thought to apply it to hubdub. Most of the codes i know are either way obsolete or dont work. My real question is, does this work on other sites such as comments on blogs or something?

Newswrangler, myself, and many others were missing from the leaderboards there for a while. I just checked wrangler's page, and he hasn't left comments for the last week. Perhaps he is on vacation? I agree with dieseldog that however Joe Biden treats Sarah Palin, SOMEBODY is going to scream sexist and we can't presume that the comment is fair or justified. I'm not going to participate in this question either "as it stands now". Considering Joe Biden's fine reputation for ethics, the starting odds are WAY OFF, unless we EXPECT irrational accusations from someone who is a Republican Pundit. In other words, as it is set up now, this question is not about Joe Biden or Sarah Palin at all: it is about unpredictable and possibly irrational comments from either party. IMHO, this is not "fair game"..."

thank you dd, I spoke up in comments, shouts and email and let them know that I didnt appreciate the way things were handled. I received apologies (from the admins/SUs that were involved)as well as some compliments and alot of encouragement from the staff. Most of what I got back was positive and alot of people (hubdubbers and staff involved) agreed the original pictures that question creators post should be left alone (unless offensive or if they ask permission to change them). I decided to post the o/u questions for monday night. I hope that from this point on, things will continue on the right path. Thanks again for the support and for speaking up when you saw something unfair. ~~Let

I can see why you're upset in the letmewinplees case. I agree that destry did make changes which letme gave a feeling of being a dumb ass. But please believe me when I say that his intentions are good. What I can imagine is that he sounds kind of rude when he writes messages. But that is more a problem of internet communication than of his personality. I cannot judge the "lying" part of your message but I don't really think I want to anyway.
But for the sake of being a community: Hopping on any occasion to comment a comment written by destry in that tone you were using the last days spoils the fun of the game for all of us reading them - they cause such a bad aura (maybe we should ask lucid, where has he been lately btw?). So if you really have such a big problem with one of the admins, you should use the contact form (or even email nigel directly) and inform the staff (if you haven't already done so). Be assured that your voice will be heard, but I do not expect destry being moved out. He's doing a great job - alltogether.

hey dd, I wanted to say tyvm for your shout, comments and continuing to support the voice of hubdubbers. We all (common HDrs) try to do our best to make this site one of the great ones. We really are the "blood" of this site and I think its important for us to speak up when we dont like how something is being handled, so thanks for doing just that. As far as what happened with the o/u questions, I thought I was doing a pretty good job at those and I really enjoyed making them. I think if the admin wants to ask "favors" (by asking us to tag a certain way, use certain wording or whatever it may be to make their jobs easier) from us, they should do that a little differently than what was done. I would have been more than willing to put whatever tags they wanted there if they actually took the time to give me the reason. Instead it was just requested without explaination (and part of the reason I got so frustrated with it). I was also ticked off to see every picture had been changed. I think anyone would have been. If they had a problem with the pictures, they should have given me a heads up or asked me if I mind before they changed them. Felt kinda like a slap in the face for all the time I spend creating those. Anyhow, thanks again~~letmewinplees

Actually I was asked in the first wave of superusers, and I was probably the only person who declined...I was concerned that a part of the objective was to divide and conquer: to take away several of our strongest members to stop Spitzer-like protests and "the Satyaki strike", etc. I think that is pretty much what has happened, and the general atmosphere today on hubdub is more peaceful, but less interesting and less thought provoking...much fewer discussions...

While I am honored and appreciative of your recommendation, I think in hindsight that I did the right thing: I want to enjoy hubdub with everyone else (with comments, compliments, and occasional criticism -- as before).

And I want to thank you again for being a friend...!

@dd .. There's no hard and fast rule. But once a question has been open for "a while" you don't want to make changes to it because then anyone that had bid on it might be upset. If there's only one or two people, no big deal. But with 20 bets, that's a lot. Hope that helps... its really just a judgement call.

the "gain" this is referring to is my quartley gain. i never lost $2,472 over night. is this saying my "cashin" value (on my open predictions) increased by $2,472 over night? if so my networth shouldn't have went down..correct? only thing i see consistent is science is my worse catagory.



Yes, these quarterly gains are going to be driven by the value of your predictions. If you put a 10,000 bet on something and no one agrees with you, your 10,000 may drop to have a cash in value of only 100. This would cause your Predictions and your Net Worth to drop by 9,900 h$.

Me: No, you end up double counting if you do it that way. Your networth is only your cash on hand and the money you currently have in predictions. The thousand you started with and the 20$ a day, etc have likely been invested in other things, so you end up double counting them if you try to count them separately. Also, when you look at the money you have in predictions, it is important to look at the cash in value, not the amount that you bet in the beginning.
