Comment 14 is all I can say on the matter. :-)
oops...I know I said I wouldn't comment again, but dieseldog...is that what you meant to say (ie yes), kinda goes opposite to what your first comment was here originally...just wondered what changed your mind...lol
I'll have to excuse myself from any further recommendations here as I have wagers on this question, and Labatt Breweries is also Canadian. I could be biased....lol.
Ok thanks...I've heard of her. Didn't your Dept of Agriculture or Commerce also do the same thing? I think I saw something on PBS about that once. Remarkable photos. Guess I'm getting way off topic here...sorry folks.
Well, today 13Nov was definitely the slowest day yet for screen response times on DOW market pages...lost a lot of 'play' money because it took in excess of 30 seconds to load pages while switching from cash in, to wagers. This is just too frustrating to bother with much more. Hubdub pages were loading approx 15x longer than other sites. (refreshing both at the same time, on same screen)
The US can't even admit that they are in a recession let alone a coming depression. No offence to you bayoubear.
Thanks for the updates chris. I am using IE6 ...IE7 is currently not an option for me as ebanking is not yet compatable with it. I have been using www.hubdub.com from day one. Load times are signficantly longer for well-trafficed markets as you suggest. I spend a significant amount of my hubdub time on the markets and I know they are busy, but the long load times for me seem to have started occurring perhaps a month to 6wks ago now. I use broadband (highspeed) running at nearly 10 Mbps. This is the only site I am experiencing these significant load times. As I mentioned earlier, I can display a hubdub and a CNN money screen at the same time and am able to do as many as 8 screen refreshes in the time it takes to do one for my hubdub screen...that just doesn't work for market wagers as you know. I'm not sure that any change would happen with uninstall of web-accelerator extensions as it is not an issue with any other sites ie MSNBC.
Got me stumped. I'm running a Core 2 Duo E6550 with 7Gigs RAM and a 1GIG GForce video card...so it should be fast doing everything. Not sure what to think...why did this site suddenly become so much slower?...not sure.

This whole thing about loans to the poor Hubdubers could lead to a lot of bad subprime loans that can't or won't be repaid. It could be dejevue all over again.
@letmewinplees...I love that idea...really excellent. Add a little extra 'ingredient', makes them come back for more...it works for Tim Horton's coffee here in Canada...everybody is addicted. I like this idea much better than the earlier suggested baleout packages. Hopefully the Hubdub Reserve Chairman sees it that way and ops out of a massive bailout ie $100 per bad debt player. We would probably need the European Hubdub to go along with this monetary incentive package...hopefully both North American and European Fed Reserves can harvest enough money off those trees.
Ya jakethesnake...what's with this having to hit the key several times just to place a bet...page won't respond or very slow to do so...by then the DOW market has changed so much that I then have to cash out on my bet just made before it has a chance to loose me money.
Agree with jakethesnake...I REALLY miss having my % gain or loss showing on Leaderboard...when did that disappear?..thought I say it a few days ago at least.
I would concur coolkraft..today was the worst yet...so I gave up early. You're right..just too frustrating.
Now Wed Nov 12...extremely slow loading anything relating to DOW questions...usually running 30-35 secs to update a page when placing wagers and cashing them on DOW questions. I'm using a 22" screen so I also have the CNN Money page up at same time and I can do 5-6 CNN screen refreshes in the time it takes for my Hubdub page to acknowledge and refresh a wager page. VERY frustrating when it won't react fast enough to market changes.
How does this settle if there's more than one category with the same number of hurricanes....I believe we currently have such a situation, as Cat 1 , Cat 3, and Cat 4 all have the same numbers of occurrences thus far.
HubDub is still very slow...now I realize that it doesn't seem to make any difference what time of day or night, it's extremely slow to load "My Predictions" page immediately after I place a wager...up to 35sec.
@letmewinplees...same here except I DON'T do sports...lol...you oughta try wagering on the DOW when it's this slow and market is changing second by second...lol. I'll have to look for that "Waiting for digg.com" that you noticed, to see if there is any correlation with slowness that I'm experiencing too.
Here's a question regarding settlement of this question. Hypotheticially speaking of course. How will this be settled if one of the two candidates is murdered (god forbid). And, not being familiar with US constitutional law, who would win and become president if the murdered individual actually won the election...ie voter list couldn't be changed in time for the election. If I wagered other, would the "other", be Biden or Palin? Just wondering if it's worth voting "other".
Well my fonts have just reverted back to their original format...dark...wondered what caused that to happen.
I hope Blackwater behaves like they do on land...shoot first and answer questions, later maybe. Pirates are criminals who threaten life and property and somebody is long overdue setting an example for them to cease. Thus far nobody has been willing to show the pirates deadly force, which is all they will likely understand. Time to start sinking them and picking up any survivors and depositing them on their own shores. Also time to shadow their 'mother ships' and not let anyone depart them while at sea.
Guess nobody here would want to join the Canadian military...those weigh-ins + a timed run/walk course, have been standard practice for more that 35yrs (I know it's not civy life. :-)
Chris, I agree that listing pages should be faster than market of course, but for me, the market pages are the slowest and considerably more so in perhaps the past 2-3 weeks the more I think about it. The clocks haven't gone back in North America yet, not til next Sunday morning. The 9am thing might be a result of lots of folks 'posturing' in anticipation of New York stock exchange opening a few minutes after that. That's where I notice the big slowdown anyway. I may try the ping thing...it's commonly used by ISP's over here when they trouble shoot line issues...I've had to do it before and folks should not worry about any ill effects when doing it in moderation.
Sunday noon (eastern)...system is very slow loading pages...about the same as a busy weekday morning lately...over 45 secs even with broadband.
Believe me it is grammically incorrect. An item can be "placed" ie explosive; but an event cannot be "placed" ie explosion. The vast majority of difficulties that Hubdubbers have with understanding questions here, are a result of grammatical errors. This is simply another case.
The site has definitely become much slower during the past 4-5 days. I am running broadband at 10.0 Mbps and no other sites have had a decline in speed. I have noticed a correlation with slowness, in relation to wager activity during fast moving DJIA events...the betting is fast and furious particularly with the questions relating to DOW daily closure estimates. I've lost a lot of 'money' because the page wouldn't reload fast enough to follow market changes.
There is no clarity with the current sentence structure. It is still misleading and grammatically incorrect. Hence the continued confusion of other Hubdubers. Mork, I understand your intent to signify that there was an explosion not orginating with any pipeline malfunction. This was a sabotage clearly, as evidenced by the continued police investigation. The provided links were sufficient to indicate that there was no malfunction. In addition, your amplifiying comment "Since then two bombs have exploded on the pipeline. Thankfully they were unsuccessful in disrupting the pipeline and nobody has been hurt", already provided the desired clarity. ;-)
The question does have gramatical errors. I can see why dragonfangxl questioned it. The word "explosions" cannot be used in conjunction with "placed". Explosions are not placed. Explosives are place. The explosions did indeed occur and therefore the word "placed' should not have been used within the sentence. I'm not concerned that this be corrected at this late date, only bringing all parties to the understanding as to why the initial confusion, hence I'll not flag this for review.
@ letmewinplease ...thanks for your response. I agree that these discussion areas are important at many levels. And yes I have availed myself of the "Contact Us' feature in the past...thanks again mate.
This is becoming very tedious. Far too many people on here neither use correct spelling nor punctuation nor, understand the importance of correct punctuation. The quotes I've offered in the past were not mine, but that of others' statements. Try to follow along here. Please. Late arrivals will not have noticed the changes to font 'bold' so your comment of "The font is exactly the same...i think", is irrelevant. And try to use correct upper vs lower case when appropriate. Also people, please try to use the correct application of ...their vs there, where vs were, then vs than etc. It displays poor comprehension of the english language in a forum where spelling and syntax are crucial to its success. I'm not trying to crash anyones' party here, just getting tired of all of these half baked and insulting reponses to a simple original question.
This one is going to garner some discussion as to settlement. The question asks when Dion is going to "announce" (that happened today 20 Oct); NOT 'when is he stepping down'. There were four choices offered with specific dates for 'actually' stepping down. The choices offered do not allow an answer to the question as they are emphatic "Steps down...", as opposed to just an 'announcement' date.
@ queviltai...I recognize that you are a relative newbie on hubdub, and possibly not aware that it is still in "Beta". Questions like this can be useful during beta testing, hence my asking in the first place for a qualified answer, not a snide remark.
@yonemoto...hence my wager on Clinton (again). If Obama was suddenly 'not there' for election/hold office then possibly second choice for Dems would fall to Hillary (prior to Nov 4th).
@ dragonfangxl...a lawyer and a little know Senator from Illinois with no record of significant accomplishments in the Senate, never held office anywhere before being elected to the Senate, was told he had no business being the "Commander in Chief"...went on to become one of the greatest Presidents of the US...President Lincoln (or Senator Obama)...you make the distinction.

The characters are not as "Bold" as earlier. They did not shrink at all ("big as ever"). Ie ..take a look at the title of this post "Fonts"...now that is 'BOLD' as opposed to the text immediately below it. The bold strike (like your response here) is how "My Predictions" dollar values used to be displayed along with a slightly less bold text ie questions. The analogy would be the difference between my text and your response in this chat (above this one) Now they are very light in both cases. This is the only page affected.
It definitely is more than 700 billion...ppl have already forgot about the Freddie and Fanny monies and the additional 85 billion for AGI. AND it won't end there...
If NASA were to 'EXTEND' the life of the shuttle fleet beyond the currently planned retirement date, the reason being given "uncertainty when dealing with Russia" or words to that effect, this would obviously change the shuttle schedule, perhaps delaying the Hubble mission as an example. Would a life extension of the fleet qualify if it modifies the schedule.
As of Sunday 21st, BBC is still reporting death toll at 54. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7627755.stm
Take a look at the charts....this hurricane has already reached cat 4, just before it passed Puerto Rico...The question does not say it has to reach cat 4 at any specific distance from the US coast line.
I've lost some money on this bet, but better me than having people hurt or worse by inflight failures. Lots of airlines have preflight system check failures all the time. Quantas is now under the microscope and reporters will be looking for anything. It still speaks volumes for this airline's safety record when they catch these issues before taking off. I'd rather sit on the ground til it got fixed than fall out of the sky. Still a remarkable record to have never lost a jet A/C in flight, after more than 50 yrs. These guys fly extreme long distances over water so they obviously want to get it right EVERY time.
This is going to be difficult to resolve. Olmert has stated he WILL step down After the leadership race has selected a new leader which won't happen til mid Sept..so of course he will still be Prime Minister on Sept 1st....making the "BLUE" answer correct. However, if he resigns from office as he says he will in mid Sept following the election, and is NOT indicted before then, then the "RED" answer would ALSO be correct.
@notablenotices...interesting article...thanks. I would not deny his hypothesis, but I do believe that the data from Mars observations is very sparse are not nearly long term enough yet to come to any decisive conclusions.
@destry...I do recall parts of that 1975 article...portions of it were used in the more recent US military's assessment of global confict and threat analysis, but it was a very samll part, which further went on to state that after an initial short term global "cooling" there would be significant stress cause by a larger and wider global warming crisis..
I still would like to know regarding this question we are wagering on...which North Pole is being considered for the ice free episode this summer...The geographic North Pole or the Magnetic North Pole? This question could pose a serious settlement issue if allowed to stand in present format.

Solar mins and max's run in 11 yr cycles and have minimal impact on the global warming that we are now experiencing. Having worked with the folks in Bolder CO., I have a fair bit of knowledge about solar cycles and their impact on earth both short term and long. Not sure where you're getting the idea of global cooling, as the exact opposite is currently happening. Average airmass temps worldwide are on the rising and significantly as are ocean temps...don't believe, go to NOAA web site for much more confirmation...or just read a couple articles about the coral bed decay happening in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The arctic and antarctic are loosing ice and snow cover at an unprecedented rate in human history. This lack of "white" further hastens the warming effect as sunlight (heat and energy) is not being reflected back out to space...this further accelerates global warming...it's no longer rocket science.
My concern regarding this wager is, we do not know which North Pole is being referred to in the question hence bad (inconcise) and question should be voided.

The question should remain open til end of 2008, as all the players have yet to agree to InBev taking over AB.
The question is quite clear actually..."Will Anheuser Busch merge with or take over InBev by the end of 2008?" There were only 2 responses made available to us...
"YES" or "NO". Anheuser Busch did NOT "merge" AND Anheuser did NOT "take over" InBev. The only answer to either of those 2 situations is 'NO'. The question did
NOT ask if InBev would buy Anheuser (Yes or No). Break the question up if you like.." Will Anheuser Busch merge...." answer NO. "Will Anheuser take over InBev".
.. Answer NO.

In case anyone 'thinks' this is a "Merger", I would refer you to several news agencies' reports over the past several weeks ie London Times and Florida Sun_Sentinal
who both report that "Anheuser-Busch was in active talks to sell itself" and "..Busch board likely to accept a sweetened buyout offer from...InBev"

When one company PAYS $50 billion to another, in the business world that is usually considered a 'Buy' not a merger. InBev is being reported by Rueters as having
"Bought" Anheuser-Busch. It's also reported that Mexico brewer would have some say in who the new "owner" of Anheuser would be....emphasis on 'owner'. After weeks
of hostile negotiations and law suites against each other you surely can't believe that this is a mutual 'love affair' amongst 'equals' ie "Merger"...that's not
how big business works.
