I am fascinated that Reuters created a Hubdub question!
How about, "When will..get her shut mouth unwired?" It is weirdly worded, even as it is oddly amusing! Thanks for the giggle.
What a fun question! My son participated a few years, marching with a chorus of other high schoolers from around the US. One favorite memory is the year the huge purple Barney balloon went down in front of the kids- They cheered as that obnoxious toddlers' character "died" in a nose dive. A fitting demise as seen through a teens' eyes!
The American government is more ready to bail out car manufacturers who have pretended that gas was water for years. The "little people" got their stimulus checks, so we should be Ok, right? Yeah, right...
This grey haired grandmom personally appreciates "these".... anywhoo...
I had to look up just how many bodies make up a cabinet, and I found Bush has 15. 4 are female and 2 appear young, so his total is 9 European-rooted oldies. Obama will probably mix it up even more.

When I wanted backround info, this is what I found...
From the official Justice Attorney's office release:
"The simple truth of this case is that former Agents Compean and Ramos shot 15 times at an unarmed man who was running away from them and posed no threat. They lied about what happened, covered up the shooting, and then proceeded to write up and file a false report.
Agents Compean and Ramos were indicted by an El Paso federal grand jury and were unanimously convicted after a 2 ½ week jury trial in which both defendants testified. The Fifth Circuit affirmed the most serious charges against them and has denied their request for a rehearing on the matter. In America, law-enforcement officers do not get to shoot unarmed suspects who are running away, lie about it and file official reports that are false. That is a crime and prosecutors cannot look the other way."
Sounds basic and obvious to me!

I love fluffy questions like this! Small queary- my mind pictures past inaugurations as being held outside.. So are we talking coat here? Outfit underneath? Gown for the evening? Ooh- a different question :)! Go swilson- how about the gown?
Sneaky! Correct, but sneaky... I couldn't see the tiny insert one, and was heavily betting she was a one shot wonder! (Which I still think she is, and her 5 minutes is soon up!!!!) teeheeteehee
I, too, respect all these ideas.
This is an honest query- with all the financial troubles of a few weeks ago, isn't a lot of the blame at the feet of unfettered regulation? The "hands off government policy" of allowing bank bigwigs and corporate megamen to set their own rules created a quagmire that still has aftershocks. Wouldn't it have been better to allow government to set guidelines first instead of trying to untangle the cut strings afterwards? I don't think people work for the common good without guidance and persuasion in the form of structure and regulations. The current leadership's growth of government has had little to do with helping guide the general population, and everything to do with the lining top people's pockets.

I have barely dipped my toe into this question creating, though I agree it is thrilling when one sees others bet on/show a quirky interesting in the same tidbit that fascinated me! It is a time consuming, sweat-generating labor of love for those of us afraid of making a mistake, but I was thankful Hubdub heads (aka destry in my situation) read and tweek the wording so it's polished and perfect. So I encourage everyone to have courage and create your own questions for all the rest of us to enjoy :)
8 PM- the E mail voting is done but the town's people and tourists can still vote with their Washingtons tomorrow. Right now cat Travis has 3017, 3 legged Toby is $651, I mean, 651 votes behind (2366). Lucy Lou is at 2108, Higgins the Mule has 2067, and Macy is fifth with 1175 votes. We can't count anyone out! Wonder if CNN has a map for this?
Will it have to be all 4 look alikes, or can there just be a President Obama skit by one of the SNL regulars?
I support Obama's ideas about education. I like the concept of more people being proudly involved in supporting each other. (We are all in this same boat together). I want a President who discusses ideas with peers, friends, even the "other side" before making an intelligent choice.
I could keep going, but those are my quick top three.
I could keep going, but those are my quick top three.
One can only hope... Such an arrogant S.O.B.- he makes nice people think thoughts of inflicting pain with a smile on one's face...And one usually could care less about sports idiots!
I am entranced by the colorful movement of opinions, like yarnballs in an inflatable moon bounce! Surely one of the most dynamic, electrified opinion graphs we've had. I am guilty myself of switching views midstream. This is fascinating!
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/10oct_lhc.htm?list16311 "The Day the World Didn't End" NASA article- good on facts.
Not tough at all. Intelligent, calm, rational, focused, global.. Obama is the clear choice for people not afraid to move forward. I want my leader to be someone who's ready to be in charge, not a tired old horse who's been trudging behind the current stumblebumpkin "lead". And I would never accept a PTA mom's assuming she can assist OR be my school Superintendent just because she's been in the building and knows kids.. No touch choices here at all!
How does one explain being spooked? What is a piece of paper in relationship to a fingerdust of gold? And how far further is a promissory note on a debt or interest applied to that note? We have moved light years from bartering-I doubt anyone understands the oxymoron "fiscal responsibility". Wish this was a cricket match and we were all innocent still..
When I was in a queue outside Parliment (and John Major was in this spot), a newsman asked this American if I, indeed, knew what was going on. I said sure, and explained what I understood (having listened to Prime Minister's question hour back home...) Well, he was so amazed I got it, he wrote, "This girl from across the pond understands our politics, so now we are sending her to Lords to explain cricket to her fellow tourists." I was tickled pink!!!... except I had no idea where "Lords" was! A funny memory....
hmm.... Even though I won, I don't agree. I read all the articles as saying that he used scissors to win the Irish bout that got him to the Olympics, not the final Olympics gold results... Can't any of you on that side of the pond call him? This is a silly debate, but that's part of the joy of Hubdub's diversity!
I vote for the peace answer- and if my son's future grandchild follows our footsteps, it'll be having fun (and bringing my world famous deviled eggs to the picnic). What a hoot!
Oy! Don't jinx my Flyers with a(hopefully)false prediction! We need all the good luck we can get for Philly.
whoo doggie... a few people are going to win big since a total of 78% of us are out of the running as of tomorrow! darn..
Though I appreciate this discourse of dissent, I feel Ryan read the question and called the settlement correctly. I did not ask if the two would ever debate again. I asked if he would accept her challenge, and he responded, "No." That does not preclude him offering his own challenge later, or a different format striking both their fancies, or some other scenerio. But for this volley, he flatly rejected her serve of a Lincoln/Douglas debate... Wish my question had lasted as long as THIS debate, so I could have voted myself!
I am comfortable with the fact that Obama said no and that Ryan says that counts. What I don't agree with is Hubdubbers who bet $9786 after I wrote and submitted that.
On today's CNN web page, the public is asked if this should, indeed, happen.. And after 23,000 votes, it's still 50/50.. This Democratic race is splitting the party in two, I fear.
Whoo whoo! I am 4 for 4!! And I don't go to the movies.. I just like the way some titles "sound".. And if anyone wants to ride my coattails, I like Chelsea and Philadelphia Flyers, and I don't do sports, either! Fun questions, lucid.
I agree with your point in principle, but since the prime slime are getting help, why shouldn't the pets? I was surprised and interested in Stein's idea, as he seems to be a "less gov't" guy, too..
Chuckle snort- no faith in the government at all! Yet I am torn- we need to be protecting people and "real" things, and the amount of $ we spend on our critters is an embarrassment... But since we ARE willing to bail out the pitbulls in the stock market, than we should do more for the real dogs (and cats). As to the date, I like October 1, for no special reason..
I have flagged my own question to have my settlement error fixed. I say "by autumn" and I meant this coming one, not 2010! (Geesh, and I edited my question 5 times!)
Wow! I had no idea children in all countries were being hurt from these "shoes" getting caught in escalators.. Let's hope the American gov't joins in on the push to have changes made!
Fox News- such an objective, well-centered information source... NOT!!! The exit opinions don't match the the quotes- You think Carter's activities undermine foreign policy based on his actions crumbling our political isolation? I read that as a positive! I think stubborn saber rattling and head-into sand-sticking are the negatives that undermine any foreign policy advances, and am glad Carter is trying to do what he can to correct these errors.
"Satisfaction" is also a good place to rant and discuss as opposed to flying your fury on the questions' pages... But for some. I feel badly that that might be their need? Great debate differs from paint ball blasting..
You have made an important point. Both questions are not news but opinions, which we have already discussed as not viable for settlements. They definitely don't work as objective askings. Much as I agreee with your sentiment, I won't vote and I think this and the Carter one are prime for voiding.
I appreciate jenny's and kruijs' abilities and awareness of all this computer stuff. I think it's fascinating how much I've learned from Hubdub about computers, let alone the stock market and its inner mysteries! Thanks, fellow Dubbers :)
AGHHHH!!!! The local Philly tv station (where debate was last night) interviewed the 2 candidates one on one today, and Hillary is wearing a red suit, and he is wearing a striped tie!!! (My other loss.) Geesh, I need a time stamp on my tea-leaf predictions!!
For our non-American 'Dubbers, the next presidential election will be November '08, but that person won't assume power until 1/09.
Oh, this soon-to-be Grandma loves being called a kid!! No idea where Shadowfox stands on the age timeline, but this site makes us all gamblers with a neat way to meth our habit!
Oh my! If my E mail reminder is a pictorial representation.. Whoo whoo, I know how to read clues!! (Or is that gaming? I really hope not!!)
What interesting choices! I would love to write-in that temper tantrumed ex model who can't fly British Air anymore. But I'll settle for Britney.
One thing we teachers have long taught is that either date is correct, acc. to your viewpoint. The equinox doesn't begin at midnight, so it is honored as the day it occurs OR as the first full day of (which then is that next day).. I think that is how this goes, in a langueage usage vs. science way..
But either way, for this poor familiy's wishes and loss- I am sorry.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- "It would be a 'cop-out' for countries to skip the opening ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics as a way of protesting China's crackdown in Tibet, President Bush's national security adviser Hadley said Sunday. ...'We haven't worked out the details of his schedule at this point in time, but from his vantage point, if you listen to what he has said, he has no reason not to go,' Hadley said in broadcast interviews Sunday. 'Because what he has said is we need to be using diplomacy.' "
Oh dear, Bush's style of diplomacy leaves a lot to be desired.. But it sounds loike he'll appear.
I don't really remember pics4d, sorry... but how about historyteacher? It's Jefferson's bday (that was his photo). I am sad that some have yet to return as the dust has settled.
With the Pope coming for a visit to America, I bet all sorts of religious imagery comes to the front of news reporting. And not just food, but in clouds and puddles and pet fur... We humans are a creative lot! I don't understand the need to make nature's randomness as important beyond interesting imagination, though.
what a well crafted question, and what cool odds for a quirky prediction! I'm in for the big gamble of exactly 110!!
ah, but if he just says, "america.."... so that would be a no, and also, more probable for a non english speaker...
She IS going to put flowers in her garden, and the little people ARE going to win! At least, that's how it grows in Hubdubland.
I'd ADORE it to be hand delivered! Just love those guys with accents... Sigh... Anglophile that I am :)
Did you mean Tibetbit? Groan- horrible humor! But seriously, I agree- I hope this is not something they would try.

Carter is a fantastic person with good intentions, positive abilities, and powerful insights for peace. So different from the idiot now in charge who has made the whole region (and America) worse for his stupidity and decisions!
I feel just the opposite. I don't need to know when/if others are on... I will see their comments, or they will respond to a challenge or question.... More socializing isn't my goal.. Maybe more privacy- when we do respond to each other's comments, it's there for everyone to see...
Last night i had a weird dream that I created one of those toy paper tattoo transfers of a Hubdub logo. I was searching a crowded gathering for someone else who had one on their forehead as I did.. Oh dear, I think I need to step away from this computer and rest!!... But now I have a chance to win a T shirt? That woud be a lot more sensible.... Maybe we could have a Hubdub car logo in case, by chance, we cross paths with someone else "in the crew"?
I am honored by your support... And since the British banker was revealed... I feel Banker does a lot more than sit in the booth. He could be a major decider, let alone the math bit,..
...with waves! Even sillier mind pic... I think I am needing bedtime, to stop from getting even weirder..Good night..
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/209/209993_excorrie_star_outed_as_no_deal_banker.html is the site where the British banker was revealed.
You have inspired me-I am going to put my $ where my mouth is. I just crafted a Hubdub question on this! Fun..
OK, but that's the UK version.. I think I am sticking with my Lorne Michaels instinct for the American show (as seen in the picture up top of the question).
With squeegies instead of brooms to slush the melting ice away?! :) You have made me giggle at all the funny thoughts..
I think, if you go to Lorne Michael's web page (Sat. Night Live producer, also NBC), and look at his pictures and profile, you might see a resemblance. I do, and that might "fit", even tho he isn't listed as a producer on Deal.. But the Banker will never be revealed, I bet..
Hockey is my adult son's fave, so he guides me on betting and creating Flyers' questions, and they have done well for me. But there is something about the discipline and "nonsportsish" curling singleness and concentration that I find fascinating.
Ah.. I was speaking of catty ME, one of the big voters! And I am an American, too. I thought you were Canadian, for I didn't know any other who loved watching the sport this side of the Great Lakes or Big Pond! I think it's a super wonderful error, and good for a laugh at ourselves.
Rats. I actually was excited- an Olympic question NOT about protests or extinguished torches! Ah well, great try Michael!!
I still like the question!!! Can we just move the settlement date? Go Canada!!
(You know, when cats are embarrassed about falling off a counter, they just wash and pretend that THAT is what they wanted to do!)
(You know, when cats are embarrassed about falling off a counter, they just wash and pretend that THAT is what they wanted to do!)
Oh I hope not!! Bad enough to be in a restaurant near a chatterer, but to be locked in a tiny echo chamber tube in rows of seats.... Please shoot me first!!!
What? No one has a comment? That's interesting in itself. Wonder how I can turn that into a vote..teeheeteehee.
Seriously, I hope all our candidates focus on the problems and not dangerous photo ops...
Seriously, I hope all our candidates focus on the problems and not dangerous photo ops...
Too funny! I am a cat person so I voted for the big cats/lions, and I am winning a bundle. I am doin gooooood, and having a ball!
I can't help but notice the timeline switch green to red, and the settlement time kind of co-incide... So all the action after should be null and void?
Me, too! (Following Jerry's betting advice..) And I think the French love to be stubborn and not follow the Brit lead!
whoo whoo!! I made $$ on Nim's Is. AND on Leatherheads AND last week's 21, and I don't even go to movies! I am having a blast with this guessing stuff! Think I should get me to a horse racing track?!
" Never argue with children. They bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience."
I won't vote. I won't add anymore to the "Satisfaction" conversation. I want us to rise up and walk away when someone doesn't deserve any attention, even negative.

Oh, no, she wore red for Jay Leno last night! And we ladies NEVER wear the same thing twice....Darn, think I need to change my vote..
Excuse me? Do you know something about the world's end that the rest of us don't? the sun ALWAYS rises.. Now, sometimes we can't see due to weather, but...!!!
You guys are silly- being top is not as fun as being a part of the whole. But of course I'd say that at a lowly 250ish spot! teeheeteehee
.. and very well pesented, too... EXCEPT...what if the avarage falls exactly on .29 again?
We have been so starved for so long of intelligent, meaningful, political debate and discussion- this has been an amazing time! Great question.
We have been so starved for so long of intelligent, meaningful, political debate and discussion- this has been an amazing time! Great question.
Admitting to something requires thought and introspection, true? So this one is a no-brainer.(Double entendre definitely implied!)
Taking away the green tally, this wild double-line graph looks like the shape of a trophy! (on its side). Maybe the most interesting visual representation from our various votings so far, and just as wild and "roller coastered" as what it's portraying..
I hope we win and Patrick beats his odds, or at least, stays strong for a long while as a moral victory (to hell with the date- let's hope he's still battling in 2009!) I don't like the macabre, but I vote yes on this one for the principle of support... I hope jersey just strolling stays in, as I really value your opinions..
from the Dec 26th New York Times (dining and wine),"A Tempest in a Champagne Flute " - leads one to believe the initiative is not yet approved...
"Indian guzzlers prompt Champagne expansion in France
London, March 4: Soaring demand in India for top wine brands from France has prompted the European country to expand the area in which wine growers are allowed to make Champagne.
During the recent Christmas festivities, wine merchants in Britain reported a drop in supplies from France due to high demand from India and Russia.
It is feared that due to limited production in the Champagne area of France, top quality wines may have to be rationed in Britain in the future. Annual sales of wine in the last year reached a record 7 billion pounds.
To meet the international demand, French authorities have decided to amend a law, which has not been changed since 1927, defining the AOC or "appellation d'origine contrtlie'' of Champagne.
The Institut National de l'Origine et de la Qualiti will redraw the boundaries of the famous Champagne-Ardenne region by March 13, expanding the 33,500-hectare region to include up to 40 more villages.
This will help increase the production of champagne.
At present, 317 villages are considered to be surrounded by the right soil and to have the right weather conditions to produce grapes for Champagne production.
Industry figures say that sales of Champagne in India soared 129 per cent in 2006, while China bought 50 per cent more, and Russia 39 per cent more.
About 150 million bottles were sold in 190 countries last year and 188 million bottles were drunk in France. After France, the British were the biggest consumers, drinking 39 million bottles."....
.... This article makes it sound like a "fait complet", but CBS story said it was to be a vote... hmm... I'll do some more research!

You are too funny! I think it is even more telling that the article says, "...Palin has been mentioned as a potential running mate on the Republican presidential ticket." Oh boy- A Republican flag waving vet and motherhood role model! They just need some apple pie now...
I find it interesting there is still a place in the world where news runs slow and locals retain hot control. Go, villagers!
Not to complain since I won, but the question phrasing led me to think this would be settled the 29th. You all interpret it as, "...be greater than 1.50 (at any future moment) by the end of February?"? OK... It must be hard to tweek all these nuances.. thanks!
If you missed Huckabee (real, not one of the actors) on last night's "Saturday Night Live!", you have to read the transcript. He playfully makes fun of this whole issue, and seems very comfortable swinging by his fingernails- interesting layer to whom he must be!
If the buried mass that his devices scanned is not the Amber Room tresure, but is, indeed, buried Nazi plunder, will this answer still be broad enough to cover a "yes"?
Fudge! Philadelphia tv says the deepest of today's storm was 4 and 1/2 inches up in little Florence, NJ. So tension mounts for our future funds as fickle Fates flomp flurries into Florence! (Or anywhere else from here to Maryland- teeheeteehee.)
Ah! He says it will be a huge storm, and he has a reputation amongst his peers for nailing weather predictions, so... We'll see if there is a Blizzard of the Century (don't you love weather as news?) for 2008!
