Someone nicely asked me to be their friend, but I can't find the request. I have been off line a bit- I was away helping son and his wife, and now I am a Grandmom :)

Thanks, that's kind. The cultural exchange in Hubdub is a surprising bonus.

The paintings are similar in many ways...I particularly like the one of the two men in your life. The artist caught amazing, but silent, interaction between the two...

I think the people who create questions get a thrill out of high turnover of investments on their questions. The challenges are a way of saying "bid on me"! Initially I found challenges irritating. Now I find that they help me not to miss an important question. So, now I really do appreciate them.

You are lucky to have a son to help you with the sports questions. I have fun guessing and seem to be doing a bit better at it. I'm glad to know that you enjoyed the Olympics! The Winter Olympics are my favorite...

I have learned a lot from working with questions on hubdub and the little gray cells get good exercise. It's almost like continuing education...

Wow! What a beautiful painting! By the same artist...?

I have learned to pick and choose challenges on hubdub...I don't know a lot about sports (for example), and often prefer to decline. Hubdub stock market questions are very risky. I try to thank the authors for their challenges and keeping me on their lists. I surprised myself by doing reasonably well with the Olympics. Did you enjoy the Olympics?

I understand what you mean about the "discussions" on hubdub taking a great deal of effort. I like to "comment" but I don't like to get involved in the very long discussion threads. I haven't joined "getsatisfaction" and I don't intend to...

That is a very beautiful oil painting indeed, and I can understand how it contains cherished memories. I looked at it for some time when I first saw it, as it was meaningful and spoke a thousand words. And yet it was a time past, a moment captured.

I guess I am little bit of everything: a retired management consultant, an artist (I have had four one-man shows), a forensics expert, a music fanatic, a language enthusiast, a traveller...I lived outside of the US for 28 years and often miss my former life...I have already lost one partner in life, and I am about to lose another...And so I was moved by your painting. Did you paint it?

Ah.. That is an oil painting of my son and best, former boyfriend at Bodiam castle's moat. I love the calm, loving feeling as they sit together feeding the ducks and fish- it is a fond memory from 20 years ago and a treasured portrait. Are you an artist or an Anglophile?

Thank you for answering my invitation. I was reading some of your comments from the past and realized that I hadn't seen your name around recently. I always thought your opinions were kind and considerate and wanted to ask you to be a friend.

I enjoy the camaraderie on hubdub but prefer to play privately. I don't send challenges and I stopped writing questions in March. (I joined the second day hubdub was on line, in January). I enjoy chatting from time to time and I like to comment when appropriate. I don't participate in fights, arguments, and "the strike". I'm sure that you remember that. I have declined kind invitations to be a superuser on three occasions, and prefer to play hubdub and be active with everyone else.

I hope you might keep me as a friend, but I will respect your decision, whatever you might decide.

The Prince's Head is a wonderful piece of Mangani Porcelain from Florence, Italy. I acquired it in South Africa in 1977. It's exceptionally heavy and a fine work of art. It was one of those crazy finds that we all have in life. It cost me a month's salary when I could afford it least, and I am so glad that I got it! I'm glad that you like it.

Yeah, that's both of my tries at doing New Kids questions voided. Its really frustrating. I hate voids!!

    Sigh.

Will go pout for a while and see if I can come up with one related to their tour.

actually, i don't think that max mosley is a super interesting topic. the second question i made about it was made because at the time i made the first, it was foreseeable that it could be difficult to lay of of him so soon. That's why i set the suspend date so early.
i find it's hard to find topics to create questions on, especially when the topic should be something of my (european colored) interest and of interest of an average american (not just that specific user, though).

    Hi,
Loesje is of dutch origin. It's a non-profit organisation (more an anarchic club, originally) which activities are now international. They started several years ago (1983) placarding in the wild (urban meaning of the word).
    See:

    http://www.loesje.org/ (international)
And, no, you can't bet against it :)

Actually, I only know one of the songs which are options in my Billboard question, because it's a hit single in my country too. All others aren't known artists over here. I agree with you in your opinion about the level of modesty exemplified in these rap videos and lyrics. But hasn't it always been so, that any younger generation tried to annoy the parents?
Anyway, I have always been interested in today's music more or less and I thought it would be a good question, because anyone knows the song in the charts (because the are played on the radio) and most people are able to predict on this.
I took the US charts because most of the HUBDUBers are US located I think, but I'm considering to also create Q for the UK charts too. Or could you propose some adequate charts?

    cnn ...

The letter comes one day after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid seemed to suggest Democratic leaders were in the process of working out a deal to ensure the party's nomination fight does not go all the way to the convention.

"Things are being done," Reid told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Now, your most recent positions are more in line with your $H Tier.

I've got to work out for a little while (get the blood flowing again). When I get back, I'll add a few more tips.

Wow. Quite a compliment (NCIS). Yes, former Marine and all that, but I don't think I'll make the silver screen. jersjusttrolling simply hasn't the looks. ;)

And yes, these young turks (Hubdub creators and staff) are truly ingenious. I'm having a blast!

Your recent bet, about the Chinese Premier meet w/Dalai Lama.

You place a $H100 bet on NO, which is a safe bet. But, you place the bet at 61.72pct. So, you are going to wait until 4/11 to get your profit of what? About $H70. 21 days for $H70. If you want to make real $H ;) you have to expect quicker returns.

Until you have amassed some considerable wealth, you should shy away from positions where the settlement date is over 10 days old, unless you get in at or around 15-20%. Then, you can ride the bulls, like I mentioned before.
    sent 36 weeks ago
Small bets do not make the market move that much by themselves. So, you can place a bunch of little bets (5*$H20=$H100).
If the market turns on you, you can dump them without disturbing the market, letting you get away with as much as you can.
If you were to dump $H3k, you certainly will not get nearly the amount of $H back as you would've by dumping a bunch of little positions.

If you buy, do not buy all your little ones at the same time. Let the market adjust, unless there is a buying spree going on. Better to get in early, ride the bulls up, until the market turns bearish, then sell a few. You can, if done right, retain "fully paid for" positions, which you could then sit on until settlement.

It is generally better to 'churn' your money. That is, get in early and low, ride the wave up, then sell to put that money back to work. At first, I made most of my small fortune by doing this. Waiting a couple of weeks, or months to settle, just isn't going to help your funds grow. If you feel that your position is absolutely right, then do not sell all your little positions, just enough to cover the cost of those you keep.

btw: what is NCIS Gibbs, and where is the thread?

i've taken a look at those positions you chose to make visible. I'll give you some thoughts to ponder now, and after I hear back from you, I'll post some more.

After a first glance, here are some suggestions, based on your net worth:
You should not take positions for over $H100. (you're not getting the best returns because you end up moving the market up prior to your purchase.)
You would do much better making multiple $H20 or $H50 even though it may take a bit more time.

You are placing your positions when those predictions are at or above 50%. While you may be sure of the outcome, again, your return is not agressive. Take a position when the percentage of your choice is below 40% (preferably less) in order to get a better return. In truth, if you want to grow rapidly, you need to shop around a bit, a take positions where your choice is below 20%. Then, other Hubdubbers who feel the same, will drive your %20 placement up to %50 or better. At this point, you've made %30+ on your position. If the event is not going to be settled for some time, cash out your position and go shopping again.

Jerry, since you imply you want to be a financial tutor, can you see all my wagers and tell me what I should do to some to make more $? Not that I ever dream of top 20 heights, but I have no real clue how to play this game with a cash brain as opposed to an opinion one.... If you are willing, thanks from pink cupcakes!
