this question is based on an american documentry that was done in a "newscast" format that predicted that al-qeida would attack the loading docks in saudi arabia right after a major hurricane striking the united states exactly where ike struck today. this question was posted two days before ike made landfall and would have given those that pay attention to the "big picture" time to decided if the american producers of the documentary had inside information or were just looking for a worst case senario.

Alberta- we get a storm watch/warning and a 10 minute thunder storm
Manitoba/Minnisota- within 36 hours will get tornado warning and a 2-6 hour rip-roaring thunderstorm
Lower Great Lakes- within 24 hours will get same as MB/MI only more islolated and more severe

if current storms in alberta slides east-northeast from great lakes basin there will be a slip-steam vacume that will draw bertha to the left on the map

@destry- i was reading a blog the other day about the odds of new york city taking a direct hit from a hurricane and how it is long over due...the current weather systems in western canada will be hitting the east coast about the time that bertha passes bermuda.. the intense low pressure from these storms will pull bertha into the eastern seaboard... the question is where. this scenario does not include the havoc that is going to happen between alberta and the east coast!

a lot of the voided questions were because , as i was informed, that the odds were questionable and were possibly gaming. my reply was that the last step was for me to predict what i thought the likely outcome would be. so i did just that, put what i felt the likely odds were. since they editors were voiding so many, i switched to 40/60. i felt that a point spread of no more than 20 points would more acceptable. this was not the case as they started voiding questions that were in this range too. so i started to play with the suspend dates to see how much would be bet by people who didn't check the settlement details. not that anyone would be anal enough to complain when they found out they had locked their $H in until the outcome had been determined. and now i am on strike. i think in the next round of tear gas i'm gonna use lucidstate as a human shield.

of course you realize that the object in the story you cited (asteriod 2007 TU24) will pass within 120,000, or there-a-bouts, of earth in nov. of 2010.
it will be about one-third of the distance to the moon. while not a new discovery it will be an extreme near-miss event. if the calculations are slightly off it could an "oh, oh, it's gonna hit us" event. check out the simulation link in the story
