Hey Nigel,
Cognos made a comment on an old, unpopular market a bit ago that should INDEED be voided. I've been pleasantly surprised at the level of professionalism oveall on this site, so something crass like this looks even more offensive because it so rare and out of character. Not to be a proponent of sensorship, but is there a way to expunge this from history? I'm afraid it might turn off new users. It's the one about Paris Hilton.

So is this indicative of what a World Editor would have to deal with? Sheesh! Also, thanks for the tip about cuil, I tried to come up with an interesting angle and when I found that Google was coming up on their 10th anniversary I thought it made an interesting comparison. http://www.hubdub.com/m12402/Do_Russian_Women_make_really_good_Wives
Looks more like not so subtle marketing to me than news prediction.

I was taken to the log in page and then straight to the bid accepted h$20 I was never given a chance to chose how much to bid. I will keep the bid that it gave me but it should have given me a chance to decide for myself. Might have a few angry people if this happens and all they wanted to do was see the odds in h$.

OK this question http://www.hubdub.com/m9795/Will_Google_still_be_ahead_of_Yahoo_in_June is way overdue for an answer. I've researched it and comscore still hasn't released the data. How much longer do you recommend that we wait?
Nigel congratulations on the two score of applications you've received for the positions of category editor. This level of interest further validates the unique and interesting structure of this site. I remember seeing a hilarious news clip once of waiter applicants at a Vancouver, BC restaurant being chased around the establishment by the owner barking nonsense at them to see if they could; navigate the tables without spilling a bottle of held wine, remember multiple complex orders, serve patrons and do it all with a pleasant demeanor. This test was to try and determine the best candidates from a large field...
Anyway, should you wish to put us all to any kind of battery of tests or comparative demonstrations, I'd be honored to be considered for any such secondary or tertiary reviews. May you have a great week and may this site continue to grow and prosper.
Regards,
Adam / V&H

Thanks for the help. Question for you. I've noticed a few problems on the site where or to whom should I report them? They are all minor and are mainly aesthetics but would help in the overall look of the site.
Nigel, kudos on the the Related Tags box on the right hand side of the home page, I presume the font size corresponds to the amounts of wagers live on HD. It is similar to a website that I use to gauge the intest of news stories in the US, UK, Canada and select other countries, perhaps you've seen it, but if not here is the website: http://marumushi.com/apps/newsmap/newsmap.cfm. Again, my compliments on the contiued improvements to the site, plz give my regards to your staff.

Hey I got my mom to sign on as a friend from my email but I never got my 50 that the email said I got???????
I just created the question: Will Google still be ahead of Yahoo in June? and I think I put it in the wrong category. I put it in Business>Results and I just realized that the May question was in Technology>Internet or something like that. Is it ok where I put it or should it be moved to the same as the old question?

FYI I just found this and thought you would like to have it.
Google Sites maintained its #1 position in the Top Properties ranking, reaching 143.4 million Americans in May. Yahoo! Sites ranked second with nearly 143 million visitors, followed by Microsoft Sites with 121.3 million visitors. Time Warner – Excluding AOL moved up one position to #9 with 56 million visitors. IRS.gov jumped 14 positions to #20 with 31 million visitors, propelled by Americans checking the status of tax refunds and stimulus checks.

Nigel, I find your FF3 question problematic.
the current version to be spread is a RC it is not the official final version. that would be the one you get with the auto-update functionality. I serously think the starting odds (50%) are way off therefor. When released officially it could reach 5 Mio (because of auto-update) but i doubt it will be enough today.

Nigel,
I'm grateful for your quick reply, thanks! To be honest this past job paid the bills but it wasn't the type of creative outlet that I really thrive in.
Perhaps this transition will be a similar catalyst for me as you enjoyed. Please don't think that I am asking for special consideration, if/when you open up positions to anyone it would be my pleasure to throw my hat into the ring and be judged on my individual merits along with everyone else. The only distinction being that I've already had something of a chance to 'introduce' myself to HD by my participation since joining at the beginning of May.
Anyway, thank you again for the reply, I love the site it’s a great forum for promoting cognitive thinking.

Hello Nigel,
I hope you've had a lot of success this week here in the state procuring more investment, I honestly believe that HD has a very bright future. I would like to let you know a couple of things.
First, it has been a genuine delight to be involved with this site for the past six weeks; everyone there has been gracious while I've learned how to properly construct markets, etc.
Secondly, and this is sooner than I'd intended... if you ever found yourself in a position where you were considering other state-side staff members I would be interested in discussing something with you. I was hoping to get up to 100 Open markets and have proven that my markets had driven a particular amount of activity to the site prior to sending this but my timeline was shortened this morning when I received a severance call from my employer. My company is owned by the US Airlines and it doesn't take a newshound to know the state of the US Airline industry! I've enjoyed the past 20 years in this industry, it's the majority of the my adult life has been involved with airlines but now, apparently, it's time for a change. I have no doubt that I will find something else quickly but it occurred to me that working with you somehow might be exciting as well.
You likely won't see many markets from me in the next few days, I'll be a bit busy, but soon I will resume activity.
Thank you for everything Nigel, give my regards to Lesley.

to the US? why do you fly to the US? must I make a wager on the "will hubdub move to the US" question?
you might have heard of this already,

hope that helps

hi nigel i disagree with the settlement of this question
i know that it says 'no signs of gaming' and that all predictions after a certain time were voided but it still could have easily been gamed. People could have been creating questions by a lot last night and nights before in order to make this question stay in the correct range
http://www.hubdub.com/m7262/How_many_active_Hubdub_markets_will_there_be_when_this_market_is_settled_on_June_1_2008
i feel stupid for betting on this question
and i didnt realize how easily it could be gamed
and i know this may seem like something to get my money back
but i dont think it was fair
and i only lost 100 hubdub dollars sooo it doesnt even matter
im just thinking people got some cash too unfairly
thanks, stephen

Hey Nigel...
I feel a bit uneasy about sending this to you, but I believe you are the originator of this site... I have only been engaged with hubdub for the month of May but I'm entirely enjoying it. Check me out and see how many markets I've created, etc. as proof.
Here is my thinking... as a beta this site is a bit vulnerable to evolving into something other than just a news prediction site. By that I mean that the recent philisophical exchanges that I see going back and forth under comments are fascinating, and as an individual I enjoy this "iron on iron" sharpening of thoughts, but it seems to have strayted from the intent of the comment section.
Has there ever been, or would you consider a gentle suggestion to the constiuents that otherwise personal exchanges like the ones I'm seeing under comments this morning mgith be better suited as 'shouts' back and forth between participants rather that to force the entire community to have to wade through them?
Just a gentle suggestion about a way to keep the site robust, I'd be interested in your thoughts, but of course you're not obliged in any way.
If you'd prefer to communicate directly on my email it is adam_peace_harmony2006@yahoo.com.

Ha. everybody is beating me this week (well, except Tom obviously). I think we need to keep refining the leaderboard algorithm until I'm top....
so, you were on the "Oktober Fest" in munich, drank a lot of beer and you can't remember where now you don't have a clue where that is?
wow, huge black out ... maybe you had a few too many "Mass" beer (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma%C3%9Fkrug)?

Ok since that mug is actually TWO pints big, you say, I don't mind going to Germany for it at all. Yes you could say I am a closet Raiders fan. Someday when they start playing well again, I'll come out of that closet :0 ... I might be pretty old by then, who knows.
