    Hey Randburg,
Sorry to hear about a drab winter in Texas, but I gotta say - Not all of Texas is drab. I enjoyed seeing Big Thicket National Reserve near Beaumont. And I hear that "Hill Country" in the southwest is nice too.

I changed out the photo because I won't get to ride much for the rest of the season (almost snowed here yesterday) and the picture was just reminding me of how little I actually rode last summer. My weakest summer for riding in last 12 years. It was a crying shame. 8>(

Thanks for your inconsiderate and sarcastic reply it is not beholding a person in your position to answer me in those terms.
It is a sign of your own mentality. I saw the offending article when I was researching Palin had a look and had a laugh.
I am not a prude by any stretch of imagination but fair go it is not newsworthy.
As to you comment about Joe blow you certainly show your own ignorance.
Your scene of reason is certainly one short of a Joe (6 pack)

Subject: Re: Market flagged (curios): Will McCain or Palin comment on 'Nailin Paylin?'

I am saying that this market is about a news story that has been reported on every major news cast. While the story is not something I would wager on, it is none the less something that the media is talking about and therefore has newsworthiness.
I believe that if a market needs voided, a user should provide those reasons when they flag. If you flag with something you think, that is one thing, but if you feel a market needs flagged, then explain why. What rule does it violate, is it not newsworthy.
Is Joe blow related to joe the plumber or joe six pack

Hey Randburg! Haven't heard from you in a while. Hope all is well. In response to your shout - I've been creating all of the ATS (against the spread) type questions (which are similar to the Vegas style bets that you'd make - would be happy to tell you more, if you're not familar with them). sdchargers has been creating all of the same NFL questions (for the same games) without the point spreads. You should find those in the NFL category as well. Hey may not have this week's out yet, but he's been good about doing these. Those start out with the percentages adjusted based on the favorites (while the spread questions start 50/50). Please let me know if I can help. Talk to you soon.

Hi. Interesting (but a bit boring in its self-serving-circling) "conversation" on the issues of politics and Palin. My 2 cents- the comment lines at Hubdub are often Viagra for small minded men who can type. Not you, of course, as your ideas seem to be trying to generate discussion.. but not sure why you bother?

You are right that I "wasted a week" but basically balanced about even. You're right that the 30K up and down could be said to be commensurate with my size, except that you need at least twice as much up to balance for the down. Most bets have 25% to 35% reward, not 100%. When you go down, you go down 100% every time.

I am also looking forward to the debate on Thursday and expecting very little...Biden is going to fumble around a bit, and I am not at all sure about Palin. Hopefully, they both surprise us favorably. We don't need another LBJ for Vice President, especially when both presidential candidates "could be" short-term.

Despite the fact that any hardship you would have would be amplified because of your size you still only lost 300. Im looking forward to watching this debate this thursday. I hope Palin suprises me as much as she did when she did her speech for the RNC.

It wasnt exactly 1 problem that i lost on. I had gained about 5000 at one point in one question so i blew all that into about 15 different questions. And of those 15 not a single one of them won. The only one that i made money off of was one that had risen 20% and i had cashed out on. And i put that money into a different question and that one failed. I won some money today though after several questions i predicted on came off successfuly. Looks like i put off bankruptcy for the time being.

Huh. I did the same thing after reading that and heres what i found: Somethings that suprises me and that i could never have anticipated is.... How Obama even has the slightest chance at winning, How soda now cost 50 cents more than it did in 2007, How im playing on a website called hubdub (that one really took me by suprise), How Bear and stearns, freddie mac and fannie mae, Wa Mu and Aig went under, How the new ipod looks worse and weirder than the old ones, How anyone is still buying an ipod after zunes do the same thing for 25 bucks cheaper, not to mention you can buy unlimited songs for a months for 15 bucks with the zunetunes, And i think thats pretty much it! Dont worry. As far as capital goes, within the next 5 days ill either be richer than i was before, or have about 0 H$. After that ill have to log on every day to get those 20 h$ and start anew.

    Randburg,

Thanks for your note, I'm back online today, for the first time in about 2 weeks, also I've been feverishly looking to get a real job again, alas, nothing yet, however Mrs. Johnson got on with the Fed's working with the SBA helping Hurricane victims file claims. One of the guys who did very well (and has long since departed, he did TOO well and got bored), ran his profile on make 20%, cash in, reinvest,...make 20% on the 120%, cash in, reinvest...make 20% on the 144%, cash in, reinvest, etc, etc...If you can make a modest profit, take the profit and move on to questions that end by Oct 1st. Then reinvest, etc...Try to keep your money turning over. Avoid long-term questions until you have enough capital saved up to play nicely. MUCH LATER, there is a way to play long-term questions...Have another look at your investments and see HOW LONG you are going to have to wait for some results...It often pays to cash in predictions BEFORE they terminate. Don't wait for the last few H$s, keep turning your money over...

      162 dragonfangxl
I dont think that there will be a problem settling that question. Wikipedia isnt reliable enough to be considered a method of settling questions. Otherwhise i would make an account and change the number dead to 10000000 and win huge! So hubdub has to choose between the news or the official death toll. I think that either one will be accepted without to many complainers however waiting for the official death toll may be the better option. The good news is, since i didnt bet on it, it doesnt affect me in the slightest. Considering i usually send my questions to three or four different admins after i make it the bad ones which cant be settled usually get weeded out right away.

I guess thats really then only option. I cashed it out and put it in a position that is much more likley to win. Ill be lucky if i make back 75% of what i put in though. Still ill make it back eventually. Until then ill just have to accept my 2000 in losses. You were right. I wish i had cashed out earlier when i was debating where the question would go. I would have made much more. Ah well. No use wondering about what could have been.

Ill be sure to stay away from sports questions then because i dont really follow that much. I have to make a decision on a question about the barack obama youtube video. I think that it will stay below 9800K but im not sure. If i try and cash out ill lose a ton of money and i wont be able to make it back very fast. If i lose i lose a lot more money. I guess ill just wait and see where my gamble takes me.

The painting of me was done by an Irish American female artist, and the one of my David was done by a local artist, the father of one of my students. But they are similiar in style, I hadn't realized..
I was not able to sort challenges, feeling the sender really valued my opinion. Perhaps I was silly in that. I found myself spending time fielding other's challenges as opp to focusing on my own ideas.
I loved the Olympics, and did well by my votes. I also have fun in the political circus. My (now adult)son helps me with sports. I am definitely not in any high clouds, as I also lose a lot in all these opinions. But I still dabble in Hubdub dollars- it is a fantastic way to voice my ideas and see how right I am! The stock market has never made sense to me, so i steer clear. And I do well with the science wages, for one can study and make fair predictions.. I think the young people who made up all the nuances of this site are just too wonderful!

I wish I was that good an artist, but the original photogragh was mine and I just knew it captured all that you saw in the painting's rendition... I am so sorry for your mourning. Sometimes it seems to me that life's joys are millions of tiny threads we must weave into our own guiderope, and life's traumas are a huge pair of shears... You have strength of experience to know there will be more weaving ahead, but that doesn't soften the cuts.

Ah.. That is an oil painting of my son and best, former boyfriend at Bodiam castle's moat. I love the calm affection as they sit together feeding the ducks and fish- it is a fond memory from 20 years ago and a treasured portrait. Are you an artist or an Anglophile?... I appreciate your comments about my past involvement- thank you. I'd like to think I can be objective and with a somewhat intelligent observer's spin, but sometimes Hubdubbing requires a lot of energy I don't feel I have, yet wish to give. Perhaps that is the definition of "friends and shouts"?

You're right that it would have been more tactful of me to comment privately instead of how I did on this page: http://www.hubdub.com/m15966/WILL_THE_BUTT_BANDIT_IN_NEBRASKA_BE_CAUGHT. I realized in retrospect that I should have taken the approach you speak of in your responding comment.

Your comment leaves me wanting to ask you a couple of questions. Why do you no longer create markets?

Also, why would you use only capital letters? Are you aware that it is considered a form of yelling? It is not a major concern however I am certainly glad that it is not a format used by many question creators. The overall appearance and tone of the site would suffer if it were the case.

Unfortunately my comment can be interpreted as being critical but my intention is to try and help the administrators avoid having to spend time doing something which can easily be avoided, namely, reformatting questions into grammatically correct format when the question creators are proven capable of doing it in the first place.

Hi. I appreciate your asking me to be a "friend", but I want to decline (after this explanation). I am one of the early members, and was very active in challenges, chatting, and commenting... and it got too much. I was super addicted to everyone's opinions, ideas, and all nuances in between. So I pulled back, play occasionally, and stay away from all the comment quagmires! But thank you anyway. (Nice pottery! Yours? Good talent there)

I hope so! Id hate to think all these comments of mine are going to waste. I dont think we have to worry about blood in this case. Distance provides a pretty hard barrier for them to get past. If he does get to the US then he will probably get a standing ovation from the audience. Generally the kind of people who watch him are the kind of people who arent very... well lets just say Patriotic

If you like that head, then it is worth more than a months salary. I once got into collecting guns however i stopped when i found myself seriously considering paying 10000 dollars for a collection finishing gun that was used by a top general in world war 2. It wasn't worth it to me. Ill take my incomplete collection and save that money. That would explain why one of the admins got pretty mad with me when i got into a..... well "discussion" with one of my fellow hubdubers. If it was made in January then i didn't hop on the boat to late then. Ive been in since June. Thats amazing that you and several other people managed to get 800,000 in that short time! Ive only been on for a couple months less and i am only looking at a 800% increase as opposed to a 80,000% percent increase. Does that mean that they will start charging for the newbies? Because despite the enjoyment i get out of this, i am probably not going to be paying for this. Although i might.

I'm up here in beautiful Denver, CO. It's getting quiet again now that the dems and the press are gone! But that pic was taken while I was in Cancun. I love Mexico and most years get down there at least once or twice.
I did use to live in Victoria - that's a little ways south of you there in big D. Didn't have any hurricanes while I was there, but we sure payed attention when they entered the gulf!
I didn't have any $$$ on McCains VP - I had but I cashed in as soon as it went up!
Good luck on your rain and I sure hope that Gustav doesn't wreak too much havok down there!

    Thanks John,
    Click on this link:
    http://www.motorcyclemaniac.net/PhotoDump/Riding_Goldwing.jpg
to see a larger version of this image. I may use this image on my homepage,
as I want to change the home page a little.

I have always used the philosophy that my website was about the things that I have seen, rather than being about me, as I am really a boring person, when viewed live and up close.

For the first time, since I created the website in 2002, I am losing traffic this year. While I have had over 1/2 million page views so far this year, it is not as high as I had hoped for. Last year, I did a major rework of my website because I was finding my photos being used without any permissions or credits. I think perhaps my stopping the right click - copy attribute has turned away some fans of the website.

Anyhow, thanks so much for your kind remarks!!!!!

Great idea about posting a photo of me riding one of my bikes.

Actually it is the only bike I own at the moment. If I was in better financial shape, I would like to own a stable of bikes, but right now, I will settle for the one.

First vehicle I ever bought new and it is a 2003 Honda Goldwing with nearly 46K miles on it.

The only time I really do is if someone comments on it. Thanks for noticing me amongst all your massive amount of friends.
I see you have almost all your $HD in predictions. Thats crazy! I've seen a few like that and dont know how you do it. There are very few questions out there I'm willing to put a few thousand on, but not many. I like to keep mine spread out in lower incriments but making predictions on more questions.

Randburg, Thanks very much for your note. And I appreciate your assesment of my creativity. On further review I think your point is well taken, even if I'm trying to be 'cute' which is what I was doing with the Sandra Day O'Connor market, I should leave more room than just 5%. One of the things that I'm trying to stimulate on the site is some more creativity and originality as I think this will encourage new members. Sometimes when I'm surfing I find such silly stuff that I have to create a market. You have to admit, 80ish Sandra Day O'Connor is not what one thinks in word association if you say.."Video Game Designer".. I've also had this idea in the back of my mind that Nintendo will try to work on the couch-potatoeness of our socienty by offering more and more wii active games. What could be less active than a court proceedinig, maybe I was just up too late but the thought of a couple of sweat-banded teen agers competing on a Court based wii game just seemed too funny.

But anyway, I will endeavor to not be ridiculous in my odds making, thanks again very much for the feedback, please keep it coming, and thanks for so frequently wagering on my musings.

thing is that if hillary stays in (shes quite stubborn and an idiot)
then i make over 10000 compared to cashing in at what is now 91 hubdub dollars
    sent 25 weeks ago
      91 stephen
haha well the thing is that when i was new i made a bunch of long term predictions
and i still have them bc they decreased so much in value that it wasnt worth cashing them in to get the money
so im holding them out until things look up
but when i make predicctions now they are usually short and one at a time wagering the money i have right now since it is so minimal

    also,
i thought it was a no brainer to put a bunch of cash in on a 'who will drop out of the race first question", i put about 5000 on no one drops out, but now it looks like hillary clinton will drop out
soo my 5000 is at about 200 soo its not worth cashing in sooo i sticking to it, hoping she will stay in to the convention

My parents wanted to name me after my grandfather, but his name was Claude and they didn't like that (thank god) and so they asked him what his favorite movie was and fortunately it was Destry Rides Again. So that is how the name was chosen.
I do have the play on record and cd. I also have the movies Destry and Destry Rides again on DVD. I am still trying to find an original movie poster, I have a replica but the originals are hard to find.

One of the things about having my name is that I know all the stories. Plus I have all the memorabilia from the plays, movie, and tv shows. I even have the book. And what is worse is the my sisters name is Tenille, so you can imagine all the Captain and Tenille jokes I have lived through.

I would love to see your artwork. If it took 3 months to complete, it must be quite a piece. I really enjoy artwork and think that YOU have one of the most interesting avatars on Hubdub. I recently changed my avatar from an owl, to the bikes. I lost about 30K in the week I was using the Owl avatar and decided it must be the unlucky owl - and not any bad decisions on my part. He he he

As for posting photos onto a website, you can google "free photo hosting" and find over 5 millions results. I think the top 3 are probably PhotoBucket, Webshots and Flickr, although I have never used any of them. I have often thought of opening an account on those sites and posting some of my best photos with links back to my website - to increase exposure and traffic to my site.

I ride a Honda Goldwing now and love it, although it is much better as a highway bike than for riding around in the city. Goldwing has a dry weight of 796 lbs (which is a lot to hold up while waiting for the red light to change). I have ridden to 43 states so far. I think Honda makes the best motorcycles, but that is frequently and sometimes vociferously up to debate. I don't have the personna to really fit onto a Harley, as I do not look, act or sound like a biker.

Not a dumb question at all - it looks so oversized that it is hard to imagine those flags attached to a motorcycle.
I took those pictures on 5-17-2008.

Actually, the flags are mounted on the 2 bikes. (I was almost as surprised as you were. LOL)
These pictures are of the "Central Route" riders. The bikes with the huge flags were the first 2 bikes to follow a police escort as they led about 200 motorcycles through town. They "collect" additional bikes as they ride eastward and the procession continues to grow until they reach their final destination at "The Wall" which is the Viet Nam War memorial. At that point 3 different routes and groups of riders converge and then they will have a quick photo opp with the President while making a statement about our armed forces.

These bikes travel from Los Angeles, CA to Washington DC each year to raise awareness of our POW & MIA armed forces.
