I think maybe this needs "Protests and no soldiers. Protests stopped by police." added?
Your knol URL link is off-target, Nigel, and points to a German steam cleaning equipment company's website. They are not too enthused about half of the world suddenly stopping by to say hello either. :)
You mean http://knol.google.com

It cannot find life on Mars, either past or present, as it is not equipped to do so therefore the answer is "No".
See http://tinyurl.com/6fj5my
"The lander is not equipped to detect life itself. Instead, scientists hope analysis of the soil and ice believed to lie beneath the surface will show whether liquid water once existed on Mars and if the ingredients needed to sustain rudimentary life are present."

Well, it seems that there were 111 vehicles, of all types, apparently including various types of (non-ICBM) missile launchers, a few ICBM missile launchers, Armoured Personnel Carriers, anti-aircraft vehicles, jeeps, some support vehicles and tanks (or, there was at least one T-90 tank).
How many of the 111 were specifically "tanks + ICBM launchers" as the question asks is unclear so far, but not many.

There's another link from today here:

That's 4500. So does that count as 500 of the 1000 referred to in the question?
The problem with the question is that eruptions are constant once they begin, they do not switch on and off, as it were. They may get more and less intense for brief periods, but they keep going overall from the start to the finish (i.e. when the volcano returns to 'dormant') of the entire event.
The question should maybe read "Will the eruption force at least a further 1000 residents to flee before the 31st ".
In which case, those of us who bet 'yes' are already half-way there.
