Newswrangler one of our superusers has brought up a good point: If Casey Anthony has her bond revoked, and returns to jail (and is unsuccessful at her upcoming bail hearing), it is likely that she will be in jail when new charges are filed.

Accordingly, Casey would not be "arrested" in the sense that is commonly used, rather she would have new charges filed against her.

Hi everyone,

First off I'll be eating the popcorn and from my view this market has settled correctly. The IRS guy was fined $1000.00 but he was also put on probation which is another form of punishment. We could've settled the market as the second option if he had just been fined and released with no probation. So since probation is a form of punishment and it wasn't covered in the second option the other option settles the market. We have an other option just for this type of situation, if we hadn't had one I probably would've voided this market. I hope we can all get along after this!

I've done a major overhaul to the above background and included some reading material. I was born when the Cold War had just ended and never felt the apprehension of a bi-polar world order. My thinking had always been that any coming conflict would be something to do with China. But the reckless Russian behavior and their "invasion" have taught me a lessen. In this particular case there's actually two reasons because I first clarified the market, and then suspended so I could await coolkraft's clarification. But the reason why often you'll see two reasons on markets where superusers have played a role is because, they first flag the market so an Admin can look at it and then suspend the market so while we wait for a admin clarification no one predicts on the market. The same reason is given due to the fact that both the flag and the suspend are happening for the same reason.

In a hope to keep the market up I'm going to make some clarifications.

Meaning of Options:

No charges filed- The legal system (government) decides not to proceed with the case, and files no charges.
Case settled out of court- The possible defendant and prosecution come to some reported agreement out of court which leads to no court case.

The key thing to remember here is that the settlement of the market is dependent on how the settlement is reported. If no reports of an agreement to settle out of court are released but the case doesn't come up for a case the market would be settled as "No charges filed."

I just can't see a Sebelius ticket. Obama and Hillary's supporters are not "fond" of each other. The one way to really upset Hillary voters would be to pick another women besides Hillary. The side effects of this could certainly move Hillary voters to abstain (doubt they'd actually vote for McCain).

I'm not a fan of Cheney in most respects, but the way in which he changed the dynamics of what a VP should be lead credence to the idea that a VP is a "trusted adviser" and not a pawn only to be used effectively to win states in the election.

I've edited the market to make it clear that any increase in the capital gains under a Obama presidency would settle the market (up until July 8th 2009). As to Eric's point about this not being possible, if Obama is elected an increase in the capital gains tax would be credited to him. So we could say will Obama with Congress raise the capital gains tax, but the question still means the same thing. If it's raised the market settles as a yes, if not a no.

You think it's tough getting a market together as a regular user? Jeeze try doing it as an admin, all I get are instant messages from destry saying "this is wrong, that's wrong, you should know better..." I used to have a perfect rating for markets settled, sadly that's not the case anymore.

To the point though. I think people are misunderstanding what I was saying when I voided the market. Because of the way the market was stated, I thought and still do that it would be easier if the market was more to the point. In the politics category things get ambiguous enough with everyone misinterpreting markets (myself included), and this is with markets that are supposedly straight to the point. While no one had really yet said anything about this market that doesn't mean they won't. I have a laundry list of markets I allowed, knowing I was confused but letting them go on because no one else complained. And those things backfired, I mean they really backfired!

I hope this puts the reasoning for the void in better context, and I hope no love is lost.

While there are international Hubdub users the wide majority are Americans. Another think to keep in mind though is that for the real money prediction markets (Intrade), they follow use reasonably close for this market. Intrade is run from Ireland so it's international as well. I use Google analytics to track usage of Hubdub and:

We have around everyday maybe 15% of the users logging on from IP's not within the US. So there is certainly an argument to be made there.

The only way we can see if survivors got out of the capsized ferry is by news reports. So far I haven't seen any reports indicating this, and the rescue operations are sadly turning into a recovery operation. The problem is that I doubt we'll ever get a official endorsement from Donna. This is because once the nominees been chosen pretty much the entire party gets behind him. If everyone thinks the market should stay up I'm more then happy to let it run its course.

HI harvey,

We know that a Clinton withdrawal is coming on Saturday as per her campaign. Also the emails she's released to her supporters are evidence that she will be suspending her campaign. Mitt Romney suspended his campaign as well after Super Tuesday but we settled markets asking if Romney would be the GOP nominee as no since it was a 99.9% chance that he wouldn't be the nominee. The same ruling is made here. Because we know she is publicly stating she is quitting on Saturday we can settle. Does that clear up the reasoning?

Seems to be some confusion with the market. The problem is we listed the settlement source as what would settle the market and the settlement source is confusing in it's own sense. After a second more detailed look at it I'll admit I'm baffled by exactly what RCP is saying the total is. Anyway I think I'm gonna resettle so both options win.

After discussions with Nigel we've come to the decision that the market will need to be voided. The clarifications that were made although with the intent to makes things better only compounded the problems with the market. We'll have to move on from this and learn from the situation which developed. Yes. In my earlier clarifications this is how I clarified the market. Actually newswrangler clarified this best very early on so go by this descriptions which I think is very clear and seeing as my clarification are just making things worse this should do it.

So this will be settled as a yes if the votes from Michigan and Florida are counted and used towards delegates.

"if the votes from Michigan's January 15, 2008, primary (which did not include Obama on the ballot), AND the votes from Florida's January 29, 2008 primary are counted, and used to award delegates to the convention. Whether or not there is any form of a "do-over" has no effect on settling this market."

I think many people have misinterpreted what I've said. When I made this comment I was speaking in the context of the 50/50 delegate splits referenced by newswrangler. When I said "whatever method" I was saying it doesn't matter if it's a 50/50 or 30/70 split, I wasn't referring to the past votes from the primaries as per my earlier clarifications. I regret the users took my comments out of context and I certainly see how that could've happened. But I won't be voiding the market I will unsuspend the market and let it go on.

Hi all,

If the divorce doesn't go through the market will be voided. To make this simpler though, if it's being reported by the media that the divorce is getting really bad and that custody/indemnities battles in the courts are forthcoming before Augusts end we can settle. If the divorce is called off then the market will be voided.

Here the clarification of the clarifications clarification.

For the market to settle as a yes the votes from Michigan and Florida (From the primaries) are counted and used towards delegates. Those delegates are then used in the convention. For example the 50/50 split idea would have some delegates "used" for Obama and others for Clinton. Hope this sorts all the confusion out?

I've clarified the market with this statement: "Campaigning will be deemed to be both McCain and Bush at campaign rally (the GOP convention would not count). Photo Op at the White House will not count. Also due to the complexity of the market question if the media (CNN, FOX, MSNBC) reports that the two are campaigning together then market settles as a yes."

Hi guys,

I know people aren't going to like my decision but although I want to be flexible with markets. Clarifying in the middle of a market always creates problems, because people interpret markets differently. So we need things as clear cut as possible. And I'm trying to stop clarifying in the middle of a market, it's hard to always do but in the end it creates less confusion.

For this market I'm not voiding because there is no reason to. But if Kennedy doesn't leave by the suspend date and seeing as no end date was given the market would settle as other. This is what the markets asking, and the other category is in the market for just this type of scenario. So no clarification is needed, if something else happens that isn't listed (Kennedy doesn't leave) the market settles as other.
