Thanks for the cool head and good spirit bayoubear. Also thanks for the question, it made for some interesting revelations about those of us who play this game. Reading the comments and gaining insight into the people who write them is very interesting. Just imagine if we were playing for real money! It's little wonder there are so many wars fought over... well nothing!
Come on folks, it's getting to personal. It's a game right? A little honor for different opinions won't hurt anyone.
I like a person that is passionate about their point of view. But respect is always to be expected, or anarchy and violence rule. Let's make this a community of honor.
I disagree with belarusia, but hey, he's got a point, and he can voice it. That said, the HubDub team needs to provide leadership here. I agree that this should have been settled hours ago.
He resigned today according to all major news sources. I watched it live. That's what the Governor said. You resign, everything after that is because you resign.
He is never the less the "resigned Governor". Any way you slice it.
Wow! This thing is getting the mileage! Nigel -- help us out here buddy!
George Bush used the past tense on the invasion of Iraq because it was performed in secret before he announced it. He told us after the fact. This example is not apples to apples.
No one is saying Mr. Spitzer is not still Governor of New York. It does appear that the Governor has resigned however. The outcome of the act of resigning is that he will no longer be the Governor. But as of the news conference, he is the resigned Governor.
Let's put this in adult context. Did the man resign? That's what he said he did. I accept that he did. So did all of New York.
In reference to Larry Craig - what he did was in clear violation of what he said he did.
In fact, what the story was about is how he could UNDO what he did - that is resign.
It appears he failed to change the outcome.
Time for this to be settled. I've got to go. Who's driving today Nigel? I'm watching my Hub dollars going all over the place.
Anyway, thanks for the lively discussion everyone
Exactly! The paperwork decides? I don't think so. Clerks may think they run the world, but in fact they are the one's that record the history of those that may it. If this question is decided by when the last official paper is signed, we will never know when that happened. News agencies don't report on the follow up.
When is the question going to be posed " When will the first law suit be filed against HubDub to settle some question?" What are the odds of that?
Can we just go with the intent (heart) of the statement? Do we really have to become lawyers to decide this stuff? I mean, the guy resigned. The rest is just the practical outworking the act of resigning. Let's not let the paperwork stand in the way of the man's attempt to do what he said he was doing.
All good comments, but the fact remains that the heart of the question was about the gov resigning or not resigning.
The only way to lose on this question was if he put it off past the mentioned dates. Today was the act of resigning. If it was a marriage, today would be the vows, Monday would be after the honeymoon. When are they in fact "married?" - that's another (cultural) argument.
He resigned today. The effective date doesn't matter. He resigned today. I believe that's the way the question was worded.
I hope.
Can anyone tell me what time (Pacific time zone US) the Nekkei closes?
If you watch the video, the satellite blew up into tiny pieces. OK. Let's move on. Of course, if you believe that NASA faked the moon walk then you won't be convinced, but hey I need my Hubdub dollars to play with!
The difference between arrogance and confidence is that one tears down to make the arrogant one "appear" better than others at the others expense, and the other is not appearance at all, but a statement of fact; a strength of character that invites others to recognize the worth they have as well. A truly confident person builds others up and thus creates instead of destroys. Most arrogant people are cowards and bully's. Of course it shows up all the time in how a game is played. Talent, however great, is a gift, not something that is earned. Some people tear down what they build with their gifts with their character (or lack of it). (Not laughing!)

Wow. After reading more of the comments, I can't believe how seriously people are about this! Maybe we should all be required to agree to something like "I will not curse the hands that provide my news entertainment". Or "I swear not to behave like a lawyer at anytime, ever".
Hmm. The question stated will he (John Edwards) endorse someone after he drops out of the race. It's an open ended question until such time as he endorses someone, or someone is elected without his endorsement. Anyway, that's how I see it. A date that is not included in the question is arbitrary.
