Valornhonor -- I think I understand the sentiment of your message, and I don't disagree with your view on the timing of it...

My sense of that sentiment is that it's like sending someone a birthday card -- better for it to arrive a day early, then have it be received a day late. And perhaps what I was saying seemed like "it either has to arrive at the exact time of their birth anniversary, or it's imperfect".

In fact, my comment was apolitical. I'm a big fan of (have a keen awareness of, and appreciation for) "single event commercials" as an advertising strategy -- and my comments, while made about a political example, were based in the, perhaps less volatile, advertising context.

These days ;-) there are fewer (and fewer) single-event commercials then in days gone by. And I understand many of the reasons why... and, at the same time, it makes those commercials that are made for a single event all the more outstanding (to me).

Probably the best one I've seen over the past year, is the 60-second commercial Coca Cola made expressly for the Macy's Day Parade! Maybe you've seen it -- it's in the "Emmy Award for Outstanding Commercial" question I made here on Hubdub.

So, the "comment I didn't make" within my comment ;-) was ... "imagine what the reaction would have been, had Obama completed his acceptance speech, and the commercial networks immediately aired John McCain's 'Congratulations Commercial' ! What would the buzz have been then amongst the pundits!"

I don't pay the bills -- nor do I know if such a strategy is "a good one" or if an embargo on secrecy is possible anymore to effect such a presentation -- but that was the sentiment behind my comment.

Question on your airline water market...do you mind if I set the suspension date to midnight Sunday before Labor Day...I've got a feeling that someone else will charge for water and it'll be settled well before then, but just to avoid any last minute wagers after it should have been suspended, it might be best to suspend it at some point before Labor Day itself...just a thought, let me know what you think about it.

Aw nuts. It's too good of an issue to not somehow be used...

Perhaps something like, "Will there be a news report of the transfer of X amount of yellowcake crossing an ocean or international border before Y time?" In this case the X would be an amount larger than Cameco's and the Y would be the anniversay of the original story.

Or...Will the world record for the largest split yellow cake be broken during 2008? and try to find the world record for the largest cake (baked good) and make a comparison to this "yellow cake" that was split up.

Or...Will any reports of a sailor becoming ill from radiation poisoning on the ship that transported the yellow cake be reported?

Or...Will Iraq offer a plausible explanation of what they'd intended to do with all of their yellow cake? World's largest tea party?

The multiple bets are so you can cash some out. If I have a position I believe in that won't close for a while, I might make 3-4 bets with the intention of letting one or two of them go to settlement and the others will be cashed out at when either 1) I need the money back or 2) I think I've made a good return on my investment.

Thanks, I have 10K on TDK personally to win, not slight on Obama, just trying to make and educated guess, and seeing how hammered my wife's theatre, and frankly all the theatres have been is perhaps clouding my judgement, either way both of these; The Dark Knight, and the Obama campaign are pushing huge stacks of cash, to me I find these comparative types of markets much more interesting. I do have a digg account also. If you don't mind me asking, I've noticed that both you and your husband frequently make multiple identical bets on a markets at the same time, sometime two or three in a row, I realize there must be some rationale for that, but perhaps I'm just too dense to see it. Do you mind enlightening me? Just curious.

Actually those 3x1000 were my third set of bets on that market. I think I have over 10,000 now. Will likely put in more once the other movie questions from this weekend pay out.

The digg count is going up on that Q. If you don't have a digg account, you should get one so you can digg it up. Its a good one to promote as it has the words Batman AND Obama in the title.. if we can just add Linux in somehow, it would be a shoe in for the front page!

Umm, never looked at the leading role portion of that question, but I'm pretty sure several actors have topped the $1 and or $2 billion mark, examples: Harrison Ford (Star Wars + Indiana Jones + Jack Ryan series, etc,) Tom Cruise, etc.
But honestly, I am not sure as I do not know what exactly your question would be. But if you mean that $1billion based upon 10 straight $100 million, then Will Smith would be alone in that, IF he can garner 2 more $100 million+ films.
Tom Cruise I believe went 5 or 7 straight, then flunked, so Will Smith is the only one possible to hit 9 or 10, for the foreseeable future anyway.

As for Sprezzatura... VERY good word for the gentleman! I know of some movies and their actors who come to mind when I Wikipedia'd this word. Ever seen Scaramouche? Ralph Fiennes and David Niven also come to mind. Hehe, I actually used to study this art, I was a total ass and egotistical to no end, but honestly, I'd never heard this term until now. But the person it describes, I used to want to be, but now that the Lord saved me from my sin and has regenerated my heart, though I sin still, I no longer desire to be this type of man. Sorry dude, nothing is jumping out at me. I don't think the outcry will be very big because 2 or 3 cents a liter is minor considering the price of fuel has basically doubled recently.
The BC government has conveniently scheduled a 100 dollar bonus cheque for citizens at the same time. Vancouver has a large portion of protest types in its population but this won't go down as anything huge in my opinion. I had not heard that BC was going to do this and I have no idea if other provinces are considering it. Trying to research each provinces plans may be difficult. I wish I had more to offer but I don't have much time these days. I am preparing to go to work out of town for a while. Major hours, its going to have a serious impact on my ability to participate here.

I see your viewpoint about comments on certain subjects (like this one) getting spread over several profiles. I have not really thought about that aspect before. I have always liked that the Spitzer discussion fell mostly (and forever) under a Spitzer market. The same with satyaki, etc. It was easy to follow and find again, being under the appropriate market. But for the three of us -- and possibly more -- to follow this conversation will be tricky...And I understand that it would be easier to put something like this on getsatisfaction, to "get it altogether somewhere"...

And yet, my understanding of getsatisfaction is just that: getting satisfaction in a knock down drag out fight, not a friendly discussion (like this one)...So, I see getsatisfaction as an unfriendly court of last resort, a waste of several hours time wading through genuine venting, and an unpleasant experience. I agree that at times it is necessary and a good thing, but I sure don't want to do it everyday.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a "friendly discussion board", or something like that...? Wouldn't it be great if we could have instant messaging between people on our "friends" list? The "shout" system only works half way...

For me it isn't really a privacy issue, I've been connected long enough to know that anything I say (type) on the 'net is public. It's the lack of conversational cohesion that I find irksome. OTOH, my kids consider it completely natural ... maybe we are showing our age. At any rate, we're either going to adapt, create a Google group for HubDub's "old fogies", or exchange email addresses (publicly, shudder)

I've likened HubDub's social networking model to a mall ... you know, it's so annoying that you have to walk past all the stores to get to the escalator. On HubDub, if you want to follow a conversation, you might have to visit 15-20 profiles and (attempt to) discern the threads of a particular conversation out of all the conversational threads extant in each user's profile.

Is it an intentional strategy of HubDub, or just a consequence of the site's development?

Actually hubdub runs like an open telephone line, a conference call, an old-fashioned "party line" where everyone can pick up the phone in the middle of a conversation AND have a say...

I think it is part of the hubdub concept that there are NO private conversations. To that end, I prefer discussions to appear under the appropriate prediction and not some "thread" elsewhere that you need to be a magician to find. I know there are two different schools of thought on this, but I don't want to spend a lot of time pooring over getsatisfaction to find out WHO was unhappy about WHAT. I prefer to see an issue discussed and hopefully resolved right under the prediction. Fortunately we are all entitled to differing viewpoints and we are probably all "right" as well, each in our own way...

Was your shout on my profile a response to the comment I made on your, "Fill the pool with gold", question? It seems that it is (was), but I find the social networking aspect of HubDub incredibly confusing. It is much easier to follow a topic on a thread in a forum, than to constantly navigate from profile to profile trying to piece together the threads of a "conversation". I'm probably just "old school" ... or maybe just "old".

I am actually very impressed that Israel and Hamas have worked out any kind of truce at all. I would have predicted AGAINST even the possibility that they could work out a truce!
